Instabridge vs Nomad: Which eSIM Should You Buy?
Updated October 27, 2026
The Short Answer
Pick Instabridge if you mostly want free WiFi and only need a small, cheap data plan for the gaps. Pick Nomad if you want a dedicated travel eSIM app with a free 1GB trial, 24/7 live chat, and bundles that stay valid for up to a year. If price per GB on a single short trip is all that matters, check Airhub first.
The Core Difference: A WiFi App With an eSIM, or an eSIM App
Instabridge started as a WiFi-sharing app. Its own site advertises over 20 million free hotspots, and the eSIM is sold as a fallback for when free WiFi isn't around or isn't fast enough. Its plans are data-only, and on its US page they are small and short: 1GB for 7 days at $2, 3GB for 15 days at $4.50, 10GB for 30 days at $12, and 20GB for 7 days at $18 (as shown on Instabridge's web store this month).
Nomad only sells eSIM data. Beyond its regular country, regional and global plans, it sells Global-EX bundles of 10GB to 50GB that stay valid for up to a year, which is a different product for someone abroad for months rather than days. The two are aimed at different readers: Instabridge at the light user who wants a cheap safety net, Nomad at the traveler who wants the eSIM to be the main connection.

Is Instabridge or Nomad the Right Pick
Go with Instabridge if…
- You're headed somewhere with plenty of community-mapped hotspots and want data only as a backup
- You want a small plan, like 1GB or 3GB, at a low price
- You're happy buying on the web store so the 20% code applies
Go with Nomad if…
- You want to test the service first with the free 1GB trial eSIM
- You'll be away for months and want a bundle valid for up to a year
- You want 24/7 live chat and hotspot sharing off your phone's data
Two Things Worth Knowing Before You Decide
A hotspot database is only as good as its community. It's strongest in busy, well-travelled cities and weaker in rural areas, so if you're heading off the beaten path, Nomad's eSIM doesn't depend on other travelers having been there first.
Neither is the cheapest for a data-heavy trip. Airhub usually runs cheaper per gigabyte. If you want unlimited data instead of a GB bucket, see Holafly. For device setup, see our eSIM compatible devices guide.
Instabridge vs Nomad FAQ
Which is cheaper, Instabridge or Nomad
For small plans, Instabridge: its US 1GB for 7 days is $2 and 10GB for 30 days is $12. Nomad's value is in its year-long Global-EX bundles rather than cheap small plans. Prices change, so confirm at checkout.
Can I enter an Instabridge code in the app
No. Instabridge's support told us promo codes only work at checkout on its web store, store.instabridge.com/mobile-data.
Can I try either one for free
Nomad offers new customers a free 1GB trial eSIM. Instabridge's WiFi map is free to use, but we haven't seen a free eSIM from it.
Which is better for months abroad
Nomad. Its Global-EX bundles of 10GB to 50GB stay valid for up to a year, while Instabridge's plans we checked run 7 to 30 days.
